Police from Newtown Local Area Command are investigating the armed robbery of a hotel in Sydney’s inner west last night.

Witnesses told police two men – one armed with a handgun, the other with a screwdriver – entered the building in Swanson Street at Erskineville about 10.45pm.

They threatened staff and demanded cash.

The men were handed a sum of cash and they left the scene in a dark-coloured Audi station wagon.

Police were alerted and a crime scene was established. Officers from the Forensic Armed Robbery Unit examined the scene
