THIEVES armed with a meat cleaver have robbed two cleaners at the Boolaroo Bowling Club.
Police said the cleaners, a 56-year-old man and 49-year-old woman, were leaving the Eighth Street club about 9pm last night when they were confronted by the two bandits.
They were marched back into the club and taken to where cash was being held.
But the cleaners made a break for an open door and escaped.
One of the bandits is described as being aged in his mid 20s, 162 centimetres tall, of athletic build, with dark skin. He was wearing dark clothing and a hoodie.
Lake Macquarie detectives are investigating.
