Police are appealing for witnesses to a ram raid at a petrol station at Hastings Point on the Far North Coast this morning.
About 3:10am, Wednesday 14 November 2012, three males attended the petrol station on Tweed Coast Road where they reversed a ute through the window of the store.
Once inside the premises the men attempted to access an ATM using a sledgehammer.
After unsuccessful attempts to access the machine the men attempted to remove it by reversing the ute into the premises several times.
Failing in their attempts, the men left empty handed fleeing in the ute.
Detectives from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command are investigating the incident and a crime scene has been established at the petrol station.
Police are now looking for a white Mazda BT-50 ute believed to have been used in the ram raid.
The ute, with Queensland registration 266-RYK, was confirmed stolen from Rochedale in Queensland about 3:30am on Monday 12 November 2012.
Investigations into the matter are continuing and anyone with information about the ram raid, the identity of the males or the whereabouts of the ute is asked to contact police.
