Detectives from Task Force Resolve working in partnership with South Eastern Region have charged a man with the armed robbery of the Returned Services League (RSL) Club at Southport in July.

Police will allege that a man approached a staff member around 6.40am on July 2 as she was opening up the RSL.

The victim was allegedly forced inside at knife point, before the man stole cash and fled the scene in the staff member’s vehicle.

The staff member was not injured during the incident.

A 33-year-old man from Mermaid Beach has been charged with armed robbery, deprivation of liberty and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He is scheduled to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.
