Police are appealing for public assistance following the armed robbery of a convenience store in the Lake Illawarra region on Saturday.

About 4.30pm (1 October 2011), a man entered the store on Lakeside Drive at Kanahooka and threatened a male employee with a knife.

The 34-year-old employee has told police the man demanded money from the till, before fleeing with a sum of cash.

It is believed he left the scene on an unregistered motorcycle.

Police were notified and officers attached to Lake Illawarra Local Area Command attended, established a crime scene and canvassed the area.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or any suspicious activity in the vicinity of Lakeside Drive, to come forward.

 The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 20s, about 175cm tall, and of thin build.

 He was wearing a light grey beanie, black jacket, tracksuit pants, and black joggers.
