Police are appealing for information following the armed robbery of a bakery at Hallidays Point, near Taree, this morning.

About 1:15am, Tuesday 4 October 2011, two men were working in the bakery when a man armed with a machete entered the store.

The man, who was wearing a costume mask, confronted the two employees and demanded access to the safe before ordering the men to lie on the ground.

The pair were told to tie their legs together before the man stole money from the register and left the shopping centre car park in an unknown vehicle.

Police were contacted and attended the store where they established a crime scene which will be forensically examined today.

Detectives from Manning/Great Lakes Local Area Command are investigating the armed robbery and are looking for a man described as Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, about 183cm tall with a slim build.

He was wearing a dark-coloured hooded top and tracksuit pants and black shoes.

Anyone who witnessed the robbery or who has information about the identity and whereabouts of the man is urged to contact Taree Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
