Police have conducted a crackdown on licensed premises within the City Central Local Area Command over the weekend. Licensing police attached to the Central Metropolitan Region and officers attached to the Alcohol and Licensing Enforcement Command (ALEC) conducted a two day operation on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 November 2011. The operation targeted 21 licensed premises which have been identified as being ‘at risk’ licensed premises within the City Central Local Area Command. The focus of the operation was to ensure compliance with licensing legislation by the premises and their patrons. During the operation police issued 44 licensing breach notices and also allegedly detected 15 offences under the Security Industry Act and three development application offences. Two men, aged 27, were arrested at a sports bar on George Street and charged with remaining in the vicinity of licensed premises and failing to comply with an intoxicated and disorderly move-on direction. They were granted bail to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on Monday 5 December 2011. Further licensing operations will be conducted targeting anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related crime at known hotspots throughout the region.
