Police are investigating an armed robbery of a convenience store in Townsville earlier this morning.

Just after 3am a man armed with a metal bar entered the convenience store on Thuringowa Drive, Kirwan and demanded money and cigarettes.

The man then fled the scene with a sum of cash and cigarettes.

No one was injured during the incident.

Police are searching for a man described as being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander appearance, 185cms with a proportionate build and black hair and wearing dark coloured pants and a white shirt at the time of the incident.
