Two men who ran from their car after it crashed in Raymond Avenue, Seaton at about 2.10am this morning, may be linked to a break-in at the nearby Seaton hotel minutes earlier.

Alarms at the hotel were activated at 2.05am when offenders smashed doors to gain entry.

About five minutes later, a police patrol spotted a car that clearly wanted to avoid police and in doing so drew attention to themselves by crashing into a fence in Raymond Avenue.

The two occupants ran off and despite cordons set and assistance from a police dog, the two remain at large.

A search of the car revealed an inoperable rifle, a wallet and other paperwork that may be of assistance to police to follow-up with the occupants of the car.

As this was happening a patrol at the hotel viewed CCTV vision which showed two men smashing the doors with the butt of a rifle.

Enquiries will continue to determine any links
