Police have charged a 33-year-old Maroochydore man following investigations into two robberies offences committed in North Brisbane this week.

It will be alleged that around 6pm on February 20 a man armed with a firearm attempted to rob a Newmarket Road, Wilston service station.

The man fled empty handed when a duress alarm was activated. No one was injured.

Around 5pm on Sunday February 19 a Gympie Road, Chermside betting agency was allegedly robbed by a man armed with a firearm. A quantity of cash was stolen and no one was injured.

The man has been charged with one count each of armed robbery, attempted armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle (relating to the alleged theft of a car from Newmarket on February 18).

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.
