Police are investigating the attempted theft of an ATM at Ormeau in the early hours of this morning.

Around 5.10am three offenders have used a sledge hammer to smash through the front glass doors of a tavern at the intersection of Pascoe Road and Halfway Street.

The ATM was located next to the front door and the offenders have managed to open the front of the machine.

A cleaner has disturbed the offenders before they could access any money.

The offenders fled the scene empty handed.
