Police in Sydney’s west are appealing for witnesses to a violent attempted robbery that’s left a Lalor Park supermarket worker injured.

About 1.45pm yesterday (Saturday 31 March 2012), two men entered the supermarket on Freeman Street, Lalor Park, and demanded a 55-year-old male employee hand over cash.

When the staff member refused, one of the offenders grabbed a shopping trolley and hurled it at him.

The pair, described only as being of Caucasian appearance, fled the store empty-handed.

They then got into a white sedan, which was last seen travelling east on Northcott Road.

Police from Blacktown Local Area Command and NSW Ambulance Paramedics attended the scene a short time later.

A crime scene was secured and examined by forensics officers.

The victim was taken to Blacktown Hospital for treatment of a severe laceration to his hand.

It’s expected he’ll be transferred to another hospital for surgery later today.
