Police from The Rocks Local Area Command have arrested and charged a man for allegedly committing a number of fraudulent transactions.

 About 4.50pm yesterday (Wednesday 4 April 2012), officers arrested the 25-year-old man at his home in Burton Street, Darlinghurst.

 The arrest follows a month-long investigation, which commenced after the man’s employer, a marketing business based at Kent St in Sydney, contacted police in relation to a number of financial irregularities with the company’s accounts.

 Police will allege the 25-year-old man committed a number of fraudulent transactions, using funds from the company’s bank accounts and credit cards to make personal purchases.

 Police will allege the offences occurred between April 2011 and March 2012, and comprised:

  • Over $127,000 in unauthorised credit card purchases of electronic items, holidays and other items;
  • Over $189,000 fraudulently transferred from the company’s bank accounts to the man’s personal account.

 Following his arrest, the man was taken to Kings Cross Police Station where he was charged with two counts of dishonestly cause financial advantage by deception and one count of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.

 The man was refused bail and will appear in Central Local Court today (Thursday 5 April 2012).
