A police patrol responding to an alarm activation at the Millicent golf club at about 3am this morning, stopped a car he recognised coming towards him that would prove fortunate.

Having stopped the vehicle with its four occupants, a meat tray on the rear seat between the passengers seemed odd.

A further search of the car revealed a large quantity of alcohol, more meat, cartons of iced coffee and two chainsaws.

An inspection of the golf club confirmed a break-in and missing alcohol however the meat, iced coffee and chain saws remained a mystery.

Further enquiries by police uncovered two other break-ins overnight at Naracorte being a butcher shop and a bakery.

A 24-year-old man, a 23-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man all from Millicent and a 19-year-old woman from Mt Gambier have all been charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass and theft.

They have been bailed to Millicent Court on 15 August.

Enquiries continue in relation to the chainsaws.
