A 33-year-old man has been charged following the armed robbery of a hospital in Gladstone this morning.

Around 4.15am, the man entered the Park Street facility and allegedly threatened staff while making demands and producing a knife.

Police arrived a short time after and detained the man fleeing the area, after a short foot pursuit.

A knife and a quantity of drugs were located allegedly in the man’s possession.

No one was physically injured during the incident.

The New Auckland man has been charged with two counts of armed robbery and one count of failure to dispose of a syringe.

He is due to face Gladstone Magistrates Court on August 27.
