Following a recent series of 11 aggravated robberies committed at bottle shops, gaming rooms, pharmacies and other retail outlets throughout the inner metropolitan areas of Adelaide during March and April, Detectives from the Organised Crime Investigation Branch – Operation Counteract, have arrested two people in connection with the robberies.
A 30-year-old man from Campbelltown has been arrested and charged with ten counts of armed robbery and a 27-year-old unemployed woman of Henley Beach was arrested and charged in May with receiving stolen goods and money laundering.
It will be alleged that proceeds of the robbery series were deposited through a legitimate banking account.
The woman will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court at a later date.
Continuing enquiries resulted in the male being arrested again yesterday and charged with a further (the 11th) aggravated robbery on the Malvern paper shop at Malvern, on 11 April 2011, illegal use of a motor vehicle and five counts of money laundering.
The money laundering relates to a number of deposits of money into a legitimate banking account.
He is currently remanded in custody to appear at the Adelaide Magistrates Court in June to answer all of his current charges.
Officer in Charge of SAPOL’s Organised Crime Investigation Branch, Detective Superintendent Peter Harvey said that, “The investigation into this series of offences is continuing and police are not ruling out further apprehensions. The charges of money laundering should act as a warning to those who attempt to legitimise criminally obtained assets. “
