Police are investigating an armed hold-up at a Port Road, Welland service station overnight.

At about 3am a man entered the On The Run and approached the counter before producing a firearm, believed to be a sawn-off rifle, and threatening the attendant.

The man made off with cash, cigarettes and milk.  A police dog later managed to track the suspect on foot for a few blocks to where he may have had a car waiting.

The service station attendant was not injured during the robbery.

The suspect is described as a man aged in his mid-20s, of Caucasian appearance, 183cm tall, with a fair complexion and a thin face.  He was wearing a black or charcoal hoody with a shiny appearance, black track pants and carried a grey sports bag.
