Police are presently investigating an armed robbery at a sports club at Apel Street, Kirra early this morning.

Shortly before 6am a male staff member was opening up for the day’s trading when he was confronted by a man armed with a handgun.

He was forced inside the premises and the offender made demands for money.

An undisclosed amount of money was stolen from a safe.

The man was not physically injured in the incident.

The offender is described as 175-180cm tall with a solid build wearing a black balaclava, black jacket with a grey hood, black track suit pants with a thin white stripe on the side, white and blue gloves and white runners.
