A taxi driver has been stabbed in the hand during an attempted robbery in Waterloo overnight.
About 9.20pm (Saturday 10 November 2012), the 28-year-old male taxi driver was sitting in his taxi on Young Street Waterloo.
At the time, he was sitting in the driver’s seat with the window down.
Police have been told a man approached the taxi driver and held a knife to his throat, demanding money.
The taxi driver tried to put his window up and as he did, the man allegedly thrust the knife towards his face.
The driver protected his face with his hands, and was allegedly stabbed in the left hand.
The man fled on foot and emergency services were notified.
The taxi driver was taken to Sydney Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
His vehicle was seized for forensic testing.
Detectives from Redfern Local Area Command are investigating the incident and would like to speak to a man they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.
He is described as being either of Caucasian or Middle Eastern/Mediterranean appearance, 20-25 years of age, about 190cm tall and with a thin build. At the time he was wearing ash coloured pants and a black jacket.
