City Central police are appealing for information following a sexual assault at Pyrmont in the early hours of this morning, and in particular would like to speak to a woman believed to have taken a photograph of a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.

About 9pm, (12 June, 2011), a 34-year-old woman attended a hotel at the intersection of George and Argyle Street, The Rocks with a group of friends. The woman told police she noticed a man staring at her throughout the night.

During the evening another woman thought the man’s behaviour to be unusual and took a photograph of him on her mobile phone.

About midnight the 34-year-old woman left the premises catching a taxi to Murray Street. Shortly after exiting the taxi the woman was approached and dragged into nearby Allen Street where she was sexually assaulted.

The woman attended a nearby hotel where she alerted staff and police. The woman was conveyed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital by ambulance.

A crime scene was established and investigations are continuing.

As a result of the incident the woman suffered facial injuries.

The man is described as being aged about 30, Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, about 170cm tall with short brown hair. He was wearing a dark grey tracksuit top and jeans.
