Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery that occurred at a Clayfield newsagency this morning.

Around 2.30am two men carrying a knife and a screwdriver entered the Junction Road business, threatening a male employee.

After a short struggle in which the male employee was hit in the face, the men fled the scene empty handed.

They were last seen heading north on Park Road in a white sedan.

The 63-year-old employee did not require medical attention.

Police investigations are continuing
