A man was injured following an armed robbery in a street at Southport overnight.
Around 1am the man was walking with a woman on Latham Street when a vehicle stopped next to them.
A man armed with an iron bar got out of the passenger side of the car and threatened the man and the woman before taking a bag the man was carrying. He then ran back to the car.
The victim gave chase and tried to retrieve his bag but was struck on the head with the bar before the car drove off. The 24-year-old man was taken to the Gold Coast Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The woman was not injured.
The man is described as having a tanned complexion, approximately 190cm tall and of average build. He was wearing a black beanie, a dark coloured jumper, dark long pants and sneakers and had his face obscured by black cloth.
The car is described as a white hatchback with four doors.
