ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an aggravated robbery in O’Connor last night (Sunday, September 2).
Around 10.30pm police were called to Capital Chemist in Sargood Street after a man entered the store and threatened staff with a blood filled syringe, demanding prescription medication.
Staff members complied with his demands and the man left the store.
The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 173cm (5’8”) tall, slim build with brown hair. He was wearing sunglasses, a red beanie, a black jacket and blue denim jeans.
Acting North District Superintendent Peter Davis said staff acted appropriately by complying with the offender’s demands.
“No amount of money or stock is worth the threat to human life,” Acting Superintendent Davis said.
ACT Policing is seeking witnesses after an aggravated robbery took place in Mawson last night (August 31).
Around 9.05pm, a man armed with a knife entered the Domino’s pizza store in Mawson Place and made demands for cash while threatened a staff member.
The staff member complied with the demands and the man fled with a sum of cash. He was last seen running in a westerly direction from the store, towards Athllon Drive.
The man can be described as 5’8” (173cm) in height, wearing a black balaclava, grey ‘hoodie’, dark coloured tracksuit pants, white gloves and white shoes.
ACT Policing is seeking assistance from patrons who may be able to identify the man who robbed the Italo Australian Club in Forrest on Saturday, July 28.
About 11.35pm that night, the offender entered the club on Franklin Street and threatened a staff member with a hunting knife. The man stole a sum of cash and fled the club on foot.
Police have released CCTV which shows the offender within the club. It’s hoped that patrons may have seen this man in a black hooded top around the club before the robbery and may be able to provide police with witness statements.
The man is described as Caucasian, approximately 183cm (6’) in height, with a stocky build and short black hair with blond tips. He was wearing a black hooded jumper and tracksuit pants, white sneakers and a black scarf. He spoke with a British accent and was carrying a blue sportsbag.
Detective Sergeant Craig Marriott from Criminal Investigations said police are urging people who were at the club late that night and remember this offender to contact Crime Stoppers. He also commended the staff member for complying with the armed man’s demands, thereby preventing anyone from being hurt.
“The staff member has undergone a terrifying experience and given the high levels of fear and emotion, did the right thing, and by doing so remained unharmed,” Detective Sergeant Marriott said.
ACT Policing is seeking witnesses after an aggravated robbery took place at the Caltex service station in Kaleen on Friday night (August 24).
Around 11pm a young man entered the Caltex service station and bought a packet of Tally Ho’s from the shop attendant.
On leaving the service station the man stood at the doorway preventing the automatic doors from closing as a second man entered the service station carrying a cross bar tyre iron.
The offender jumped the counter threatening and demanding that the staff member open the cash register.
The staff member complied with the request and the offender removed a sum of cash and assaulted the staff member before being confronted by a member of the public.
Criminal Investigation’s Detective Superintendent Brett McCann said that the actions of the member of the public should be praised, however cautioned people to think about their own safety.
The first offender is described as Caucasian in appearance, thin build wearing a dark blue ‘hoodie’, light grey tracksuit pants and white sneakers.
The second offender was wearing a black ‘hoodie’, light coloured pants, white shoes and his face was concealed by a dark colour bandana.
“The assault of the staff member was cowardly. The staff member had complied with the demands and there was no reason for this unprovoked assault to take place.” Detective Superintendent McCann said.
ACT Policing is seeking witnesses after an aggravated robbery took place in Conder on Friday night (August 24).
Around 8.15pm, a man armed with a knife entered the Corks Local Liquor and threatened two staff members standing behind the counter. The man made demands for cash, cigarettes and alcohol.
The staff members complied with the demands before the man exited the store and left the area on foot.
Criminal Investigation’s Detective Superintendent Brett McCann said that people who visit local shopping centres should remain vigilant of people acting suspiciously.
“A common modus operandi for aggravated robberies is for the offender to first ‘case out’ the premise they are looking at robbing. They will study the business, monitor opening and closing times, and when people come and go.
“They will usually watch the premise for a period of time, choosing a quiet time to commit the offence.
“If people see someone acting suspiciously around a local shopping centre, contact the police on 131 444. This can include loitering around a particular shop, or the person just seems out-of-place for that particular time of day,” Detective Superintendent McCann said.
At the time of the robbery the man was wearing a black hooded jumper, black tracksuit pants and a face covering.
ACT Policing is seeking witnesses after an aggravated robbery took place in Lonsdale Street, Braddon yesterday afternoon (August 21).
Around 1pm yesterday, a man armed with a large kitchen knife entered the Civic Video store, and made demands for cash. The staff member complied with the demand, and the man removed a sum of cash from the cash register before fleeing the store. The man was last seen running towards Cooyong Street.
At the time of the aggravated robbery, a customer was in the store who may have witnessed the incident. The identity of this person is not known to police.
North District Acting Superintendent Peter Davis said that this aggravated robbery was extremely brazen given the time of day and location of the store.
“An offence of this type, at 1pm in the afternoon is extremely brazen, especially with the lunch-time rush around the city area. In this case, the store employee did the right thing by complying with the demands.
“We are still seeking to locate the customer who was in the store at the time. We believe that this person may have witnessed the robbery and could provide crucial information,” Acting Superintendent Davis said.
The offender is described as Caucasian in appearance, around 5’5” (165cm) in height, medium build, dark coloured hair and brown eyes. At the time of the robbery he was wearing a grey ‘hoodie’ with a white motif on the front and blue jeans.
ACT Policing has released CCTV images of the man believed responsible for the robbery at the Coffee Club in Belconnen Westfield on Wednesday (August 8).
At 5.35pm, a female employee was counting money after closing the café when a man walked behind the service counter. The woman tried to grab the money however the man pushed her aside and took the cash.
The man was last seen running towards the level three car park accessed off Cohen Street. No-one was injured during the robbery.
The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, aged in his early 20’s, with a slim build and ginger or blond facial stubble. He was wearing a grey jumper, dark blue jeans and a black beanie, and was carrying a black backpack
A 34-year-old Curtin man will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday (July 27) to be charged with 20 counts of theft and one count of false accounting in relation to his management of a company trust fund.
Police will allege the man misappropriated a total of $42,876.
The company first became aware that funds were missing from the account in February 2009.
A search warrant executed by police on a Curtin residence in May resulted in a number of items being seized in evidence including computer equipment, three press-seal bags containing traces of a white powder suspected to be cocaine, and an expandable baton.
As a result, the alleged offender will also be charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, and possession of a drug of dependence.
ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an attempted aggravated robbery which occurred at the Superbarn Express at Richardson shops yesterday (Sunday, 22 July).
About 8.15pm a man entered the supermarket and threatened staff with a knife, demanding the till be opened.
Following a short standoff with the owner of the store, the offender fled the store empty handed. He was last seen running towards McLorinan Street, Richardson, ACT.
The offender is described as 183cm (6’) tall with a slim build to athletic build. He was wearing white runners, black tracksuit pants with vertical white stripes, black and blue coloured hooded jacket, white gloves and had piece of coloured fabric covering his face. He was carrying a blue coloured duffel bag.
ACT Policing is investigating an aggravated robbery that occurred at the Westpac bank in Alinga Street, Canberra City today.
Around 3.00pm, a man entered the Westpac premises with what appeared to be a firearm and demanded money from the teller.
The teller handed over a sum of cash whereby the offender then left the premises.
The alleged offender is described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 165cm (5’5”), wearing a hat, dark jacket and a scarf across his face.
ACT Policing is at the scene and are investigating the incident.
