ACT Policing has arrested a 38-year-old Ainslie man for robbing three stores in Braddon on Saturday night (9 August).

About 8.15pm the man entered a supermarket in the Canberra Centre on Bunda Street, stealing a multipack of matches and attempting to take money from the till.

At about 8.20pm, a man matching the same description entered a service station on Lonsdale Street and threatened the cashier with a syringe, leaving the store with a sum of money.

CCTV footage was obtained and a detailed description of the man was circulated to police.

At 12.45am on Sunday (10 August), the same man allegedly entered another service station on Lonsdale Street threatening the attendant with a syringe. After the attendant failed to open the till, the man jumped the counter and stole sunglasses, tobacco and mobile phones. The man left on a bicycle with a second man who waited outside on a second bike.

The man was arrested by police at about 1.55am in Kanangra Court with the stolen items in his possession.

He was transported to the Watch House and charged with multiple offences including aggravated robbery with offensive weapon and theft.

He will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday (11 August) where bail will be opposed

ACT Policing has released the facefit of one of two males who robbed a pizza delivery driver in Banks on Friday (July 25).

About 9.25pm, a pizza delivery driver attended an address in Adcock Place, Banks, to deliver an order. At the address, the delivery driver noticed two males standing out the front of the residence.

As the delivery driver exited his vehicle and asked for payment for the order both males pulled kitchen knives and demanded cash and pizza. The victim complied with the demands for pizza before the two males fled through a laneway towards Paperbark Street, Banks.

Police conducted a door knock and patrol of the immediate area but could not locate the two males.

Both male offenders are described as Caucasian aged between 17 and 19 years of age. The male offender pictured was approximately 175-178cm (5’8”-5’10”) and was wearing a black woolen beanie, black top and off white-brownish track pants.

ACT Policing yesterday (Friday, August 1) arrested a 53-year-old Franklin man on multiple fraud charges after a lengthy investigation into a series of financial transactions.

Police will allege the man was involved in a series of financial transactions in an effort to purchase multiple properties worth millions of dollars in the ACT, Queensland and NSW.

On July 18, police executed a search warrant on the home of the alleged offender and seized a number of documents. On July 22, a further search warrant was executed on a home in Cremorne, NSW.

Police will allege the offender used personal and company bank accounts to launder money obtained through elaborate fraudulent dealings.

He was arrested at his Franklin home yesterday and conveyed to the ACT Watch House. He will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (August 2) on three charges of obtain property by deception, and one charge of attempt to obtain financial advantage by deception. Investigations are ongoing.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an aggravated robbery in Rivett this morning (Wednesday July 30).

About 7.45am, a man entered the Rivett Newsagency holding a large kitchen knife and demanded cash from the shop attendant. The staff member complied and handed the offender a sum of cash.

The offender is described as being a male, 5’11” (180cm) tall and possibly aged in his teens or early twenties. He was wearing black ‘Puma’ brand track pants with a white stripe down the leg, a black jacket over a white hooded jumper, a black balaclava, black gloves and white shoes.

Police, along with AFP Forensics Services, attended the scene, spoke with witnesses and sought CCTV from the area.

Witnesses outside the shop identified that the male fled on foot in a north-westerly direction towards Bangalay Crescent.

ACT Policing believes the same offender was responsible for three separate attempted aggravated robberies on Canberra’s northside last night (Thursday, July 10).Witnesses are being sought to all three incidents and police enquiries are ongoing.
Around 6.40pm, an offender entered a supermarket at Cook and threatened staff with a bladed weapon. As he made the demands, a customer boldly struck the offender on the back of the head with a full bottle of red wine. The offender stumbled forward, then ran off without taking any cash or property.
This offender was described as being 5’9” (174cm) tall, and wearing a dark coloured hooded jacket.
Around 7pm, an offender described as Caucasian, normal build, aged in his 20s, and around 5’5” to 5’7” (165-170cm) tall, entered the supermarket at Scullin with a knife and made threats to staff. He fled from the supermarket when a car pulled up in the carpark outside.
Around 10 minutes later, police believe the same offender entered a business premises in Higgins, demanded money and threatened staff with a knife. The staff steadfastly refused the demand, and the offender then ran off.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an aggravated robbery in Waramanga around 5.30pm yesterday (Thursday, July 10), when an offender waved an edged weapon at staff and demanded money.

The offender is described as of Pacific Islander appearance, between 6’2” and 6’3” tall, with a solid build, and wearing sunglasses, a dark hooded jacket and light grey track pants. He attempted to hide his face with a red scarf or bandanna.

A sum of cash was handed over to the offender, who then fled in the direction of Nemarang Crescent, Waramanga.

Police resources were deployed to the area within minutes but were unsuccessful in locating the offender.

About 8.25pm a man has entered the Hello Sexy Adult store on Wollongong Street, Fyshwick, carrying a machete. The man threatened the employee with the machete and demanded cash, to which the employee complied.

No other persons were present during the robbery and no one was injured.

The offender is described as having a solid build, approximately 180cm (5’11”) tall and speaking with an accent, possibly Greek or Lebanese. He was wearing a black balaclava, sunglasses, dark clothing and gloves.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an armed robbery at the Lyons Friendly Grocer in Lyons last night (Tuesday, July 1).

Around 7.40pm, a man entered the supermarket and threatened a staff member with a knife, demanding cash.

The employee complied and the man then opened the cigarettes cupboard and took several packets of cigarettes before fleeing the scene.

The offender is described as 5’3” (160cm) tall with a slim build. He was wearing dark coloured shoes, dark coloured pants, a dark coloured hooded jumper with a zip up front, a black scarf around his face and a red baseball style cap which was under his hooded jumper.

He was last seen turning left out of the store and heading towards Deloraine Street on foot.

AFP Forensics attended the scene. Investigations are ongoing.

ACT Policing is appealing for witnesses to an aggravated robbery of a hotel in Braddon yesterday morning (Sunday, June 29).

About 9.00am a woman, armed with a knife, entered the reception of the Mercure Hotel on Ainslie Avenue, Braddon, and threatened two female staff members while demanding cash.

A male employee has attempted to restrain the offender and a brief struggle has ensued. The offender fled on a bicycle, making off with a sum of cash.

The male employee sustained minor injuries.

Criminal Investigations Detectives are investigating the incident and are appealing for anyone who saw a woman riding a dark coloured mountain bike in the vicinity of Ainslie Avenue and Kanangra Court.

The woman is described as Caucasian in appearance, with a slim build, approximately 5’3” to 5’5” (160cm – 165cm) tall, wearing black pants and jacket with a grey hood over her head.
