Brimbank Embona detectives are appealing for witnesses following an attempted armed robbery at a fast food outlet in Deer Park last month.
Investigators have been told that a man armed with a knife walked into the take-away store at a shopping centre on Station Road about 9pm on Sunday 22 March.
The man approached the counter and produced a small knife whilst making demands for money.
The offender was confronted by the manager of the store and fled the scene empty handed.
He has been described as Caucasian, aged in his 20s and was wearing a white and blue hooded jumper.
Detectives have released an image of a man that may assist with their enquiries.

Police are appealing for information after an armed robbery on a pizza shop in South Hurstville overnight.
About 8pm (Sunday 29 March 2015) police were called to Connells Point Road following reports two men entered the store with one of the men allegedly threatening an employee with a pocket knife, demanding money.
The employee complied and the two men were last seen running east on Connells Point Road.
No one was injured.
The first man has been described to police as about 183cm tall, with a thin build, wearing dark coloured track pants, a white hoodie (with hood pulled over his head) and his face covered by a dark cloth.
The second man has been described as also about 183cm tall, with a thin build, wearing a blue coloured hoodie (with hood pulled over his head) and his face covered with a blue cloth.
ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to two armed robberies that occurred last night (Monday, March 23) in Belconnen.
Around 9.45pm two males smashed the locked front glass door at Kingsley’s Chicken, Rae Street, and entered, armed with knives.
One male guarded three customers, who were still inside the restaurant, while the other entered the kitchen area, taking money from the float and three mobile telephones belonging to staff members who had fled out of a side door.
The two offenders left in a white Hyundai hatchback and drove a short distance to the Canberra Cellars ‘Bottle-O’ on the corner of Luxton and Josephson Street, Belconnen.
The two offenders entered the bottle shop and stole a sum of cash and cigarettes from the attendant before leaving in the direction of Southern Cross Drive.
The first male was wearing a light blue baseball cap, black and white skull face mask, a black hooded jumper with a white motif on the front, black track pants and black shoes.
The second male was wearing a blue hooded jumper, black and white skull face mask, grey track pants and white shoes.

Police from Camden Local Area Command are investigating the circumstances surround an armed robbery at a pizza shop in Narellan last night.
About 8.45pm (Monday 23 March, 2015), a man armed with a machete, entered a pizza shop on Camden Valley Way.
He threatened the female employee, who was alone in the store, and demanded cash from the till, then demanded she open the safe.
The woman complied and the man ran from the store with an amount of cash.
The employee suffered shock but was not physically hurt during the robbery.
At the time of the robbery the man was wearing a red motorcycle helmet with a grey top and black track pants with white shoes.
ACT Policing is appealing for witnesses to an aggravated robbery that occurred in Weston last night (Saturday, March 14).
About 10.45pm police responded to reports of an aggravated robbery at the Domino’s Pizza shop on Trenerry Street in Weston.
A male entered the store armed with a firearm, jumping the front counter and threatening staff. The offender demanded money from the tills and safe before leaving the store with a sum of cash. He was last seen headed towards Streeton Drive.
The man is described as tall, wearing a black hooded jumper, black track pants with white stripe and carrying a shortened single barrel shotgun and an Aldi shopping bag.

Police are appealing for information after the armed robbery of a takeaway fast food store in Emerton last night.
About 10.20pm (Monday 16 March 2015), five males entered a fast food store on Popondetta Road armed with firearms and knives.
The males, who had their faces covered with scarves and jumpers, demanded money. One of the males pointed a firearm at an employee’s head.
Staff members complied and the males left the store with cash.
Police from Mount Druitt Local Area Command were notified of the incident and commenced an investigation.
Officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
A teenager has been charged with attempted armed robbery on the mid-north coast yesterday (Thursday 12 March, 2015).
About 9.10pm, Tuesday 10 March 2015, police will allege a 15-year-old, armed with two knives, entered a take-away store on the Pacific Highway, Nambucca Heads.
She was wearing a black jumper and had her face covered.
The teen allegedly approached the till area, demanding money. The staff opened the till, showing her there was no money in it.
The 15 year old has allegedly thrown items around the store and held both knives out toward a staff member before running from the store.
No property was taken during the incident and no one was injured.
Police were called and investigations into the incident led to the arrest of a 15-year-old at Nambucca Heads about 1pm yesterday (Thursday 12 March, 2015).
She was taken to Macksville Police Station and charged with attempted armed robbery.
The teen was granted strict conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Thursday 9 April, 2015.

At about 7.30pm a man armed with a knife entered the shop and demanded money from the 20-year-old male attendant.
The attendant complied and the man left the store with a sum of cash.
The man is described as approximately 183 centimetres tall, of Pacific Islander descent who was last seen leaving the address in a bronze coloured sedan.
The attendant was not physically injured during the incident.
Investigations are continuing.
A second man has been charged following investigations into an armed robbery at a fast food restaurant in Minto earlier this year.
About 5.50am on Tuesday 27 January, 2015, a 32-year-old woman started her shift at a sandwich bar in an industrial complex on Stoney Batter Road when two men enter the shop allegedly armed with knives.
The two men allegedly threaten the woman demanding access to the safe.
Police will allege the men stole an amount of cash from the safe, along with her personal belongings, before leaving the store.
Police were called and an investigation was commenced.
About 8pm yesterday (Monday 9 March 2015), officers from Macquarie Fields Local Area Command arrested a 21-year-old man at Campbelltown Police Station.
He was charged with 17 offences including robbery in company, aggravated break enter and steal, steal motor vehicle, destroy property by fire, dishonestly obtain property by deception, and having goods in custody suspected of being stolen.
He was refused bail and will appear in Campbelltown Local Court today (Tuesday 10 March 2015).
This is the second man to be arrested and charged over this robbery. On Thursday 29 January 2015, police charged a man for this robbery and other property offences in the Camden, Macquarie Fields and Campbelltown areas.
Police are investigating the armed robbery of a fast food restaurant in Jindalee last night.
Initial inquiries indicate around 10pm, a man brandishing a tyre iron approached the drive-through attendant of a Goggs Road establishment.
He made demands from the attendant who closed the window, at which point the man entered through the main door.
He made the same demands for money while armed, before leaving the address with a sum of cash.
Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have been inside the store at the time or in the vicinity and may have noticed any suspicious activity, to contact them.
