Police are appealing for public assistance following the attempted armed robbery of a financial institution in St Leonards today.
Just after midday, an armed man entered the premises on the Pacific Highway and allegedly threatened an employee with a gun, demanding money.
The man fled the scene empty-handed after the employee activated the security alarm.
The would-be thief was last seen riding a pushbike into nearby Christie Street.
Police were notified and officers attached to Harbourside Local Area Command attended and spoke with witnesses.
Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident and who hasn’t already spoken to police, to come forward.
The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, approximately 178cm tall, and of medium build. At the time he was wearing shorts, a blue jumper and was carrying a shoulder bag.
