Police are investigating an armed robbery at a club in Southport early this morning.

Initial investigations indicate a man approached an employee armed with a knife as she opened the door to the Scarborough Street Returned and Services League (RSL) around 6.30am.

He threatened the woman while demanding money and the keys to her car.

The victim led the offender to a safe where he stole a sum of cash before fleeing from the area in the staff member’s vehicle.

He is described as between 20 and 30-years-old, around 180-185cm tall with a proportionate build.

He was wearing a black hooded t-shirt over a long sleeved white shirt and black pants. He was also carrying a back pack.

The car is described as a silver Holden Commodore sedan with alloy wheels.

Media note: Police are exploring the idea the man may have been in the area for a period of time before the victim arrived for work and appeal for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
