Devonport CIB is continuing to investigate the assault of a 22 year old man in Ulverstone between 3 and 4am on Sunday 26 June 2011.
The man was walking alone near the caravan park at West Ulverstone when two males pulled up in a vehicle, and assaulted the man.
It’s believed the motivation for the assault was the homosexuality of the victim.
The victim attended the Mersey Hospital and received medical treatment in relation to a fractured right elbow, broken right arm and facial injuries including two black eyes.
The offenders are described as;
– aged 23, between 165-170cm tall, athletic build, short light brown hair. Wearing a navy baseball cap, dark blue T-shirt and jeans and dark coloured skate shoes.
– about 25 years old, 185cm tall, stocky build, natural short blonde hair. Wearing a plain white t-shirt, light blue jeans and white shoes.
The two males attended a function at the Turner’s Beach Football Club during the evening of Saturday 25 June 2011, as did the victim. At the time of the assault the males were travelling in a maroon/burgundy coloured Ford Falcon station wagon.
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the two males at either the Football Club function or in the vicinity of the assault. Please contact Crime Stoppers on 1300 888 000 or the Ulverstone Police Station on 64298606.
“Tasmania Police takes any incident of violence and assault extremely seriously
and we encourage anyone who has been the victim of a prejudice-motivated crime to contact us,” said Commander Avery.
“As part of our commitment to equality and fairness we have a network of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) Liaison Officers to provide advice and assistance in reporting crimes.”
“While Tasmania Police collates statistics on assaults, it is problematic to collate figures on prejudice-motivated crime as the assessment of motive can be subjective.”
