A man who attempted to rob a Beenleigh newsagency yesterday afternoon was forced from the store by two man and their shopping trolleys.

Around 4.30pm a man armed with a knife entered the George Street business and demanded cash from a 70-year-old male store employee.

The employee walked towards a trolley whilst calling out for help and the man followed him.

Two men, aged 39 and 52, who were at a nearby food court, and who also had in their possession a shopping trolley, came to the attendants aid.

The 70-year-old man and the 39-year-old man used their trolleys to push the offender away and out of the store.

He was last seen fleeing down George Street and towards the local high school.

The man is described as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance, aged between 25 and 30 years, approximately 178cms tall, with a slim build and was wearing a dark hooded jacket and dark shorts.

No one was injured during the attempted robbery and police investigations are continuing.
