Two men have been charged following the alleged armed robbery of a private club in Dee Why overnight.

About 12.45am today (Monday 11 July 2011), two men entered the club on Pittwater Road and allegedly threatened staff and patrons with a firearm.

Police will allege the men demanded money before fleeing the club with a sum of cash and a mobile phone.

Shortly after 1am, police from Northern Beaches Local Area Command stopped a vehicle on Pittwater Road at Seaforth for a random breath test.

It is alleged that during a subsequent search of the car officers located a firearm and cash. Police also allegedly located an amount of cannabis and methylamphetamine.

A 30-year-old Lurnea man and a 27-year-old Arncliffe man were arrested and taken to Dee Why Police station where they were both charged with aggravated armed robbery, possession of prohibited drugs, and firearms offences.

Both men were refused bail and appeared in court today.
