Police are searching for a man they believe is responsible for two armed robberies in the Wynnum district overnight.

The first robbery occurred at a supermarket on Manly Road, Manly West where it is alleged a man approached the cigarette counter at the front of the store around 7pm.

After waiting for two people in front to be served, the man told the sales person he had a weapon and demanded cash and cigarettes and on receiving these, has walked out of the store.

The second incident happened at another supermarket on New Cleveland Road, Gumdale just before 10pm.

Preliminary investigations indicate the man approached the cashier and on indicating he was armed, demanded cash.

On receiving a sum of money the man then left.

Police are searching for a man described as being of Caucasian appearance, 176cms, aged in his 40s, with a stocky build and close shaved hair and facial stubble.

At the time of the incident the man was wearing a white flannelette shirt and dark pants.
