Police have arrested numerous young people following an alleged assault and robbery at a convenience store in Sydney’s south-west last night (Tuesday 26 July 2011).
Officers were told up to seven male youths entered the store on Chapel Road, Bankstown, about 10.30pm.
The 26-year-old console attendant was allegedly punched repeatedly while a number of packets of cigarettes were stolen. The youths then left the store.
Police and other emergency services were contacted and the attendant was treated for facial injuries, including a cut to his left eye.
A short time later, police attended a home unit in Gordon Street, Bankstown, and attempted to arrest a 16-year-old youth.
Officers will allege up to 10 young people intervened in an attempt to prevent the arrest and further police were called.
A number of youths were subsequently arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station.
Six youths, aged between 15 and 17, were charged with aggravated robbery.
One of those was additionally charged with assault police and resist arrest, as was a 14-year-old boy. A 15-year-old boy was charged with breach of bail.
All those charged were refused bail to face Parramatta Children’s Court today.
Police are still seeking a seventh youth in relation to the assault and robbery.
