Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery at a takeaway store on Gold Coast yesterday.

Around 9.30 last night two men entered the shop on The Spit at Main Beach.

One man was armed with a knife and the second man produced a hammer. The men demanded money from a male store attendant.

The worker refused and was injured during a struggle when he tried to stop the men.

The men fleed empty handed.

The shop attendant sustained lacerations to his forehead and right hand. He was transported to the Gold Coast Hospital for treatment.

One man is described as being 165cm tall, solid build, between 30 and 40-years-old and wearing a red or brown jumper.

The second man was described as being 170cm tall, slim build, approximately 30-year-old and wearing a dark coloured jumper.

Both men were described as having Australian accent.

Police investigations are continuing.
