Police are conducting inquiries following the armed robbery of a cash-in-transit officer at Eastgardens, in Sydney’s south, this morning.
The 36-year-old officer was approached by a man after parking his vehicle on the top level of a shopping centre on the corner of Wentworth Avenue and Bunnerong Road, shortly after 11am (Saturday 10 September 2011).
Police have been told the man threatened the officer with a firearm and demanded he hand over a security bag containing cash.
The man then fled the area with a large sum of money and police were notified.
The officer wasn’t injured in the incident.
Detectives from the Botany Bay Local Area Command have commenced inquiries into the armed robbery and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
The armed man is described as being of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance, about 182cm tall, aged in his 40s or 50s, and of solid build. He was wearing blue tracksuit pants, a bright blue and white jacket, and a blue hat with a red logo.
The man got out of a cream-coloured Ford Laser with NSW registration JB1629. Inquiries revealed the car was stolen from Kensington earlier in the day.
