An 18-year-old Biggera Waters man is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow following investigations into an alleged attempted armed robbery at Southport yesterday.

It will be alleged that shortly after 3.15pm a man armed with a knife entered a Marine Parade supermarket and demanded money from a 68-year-old male employee.

The employee did not comply, and the man kicked out at him before fleeing the store empty handed.

Later that afternoon a man handed himself in at a local business and police were called.

No one was injured during the incident.

The man has been charged with attempted armed robbery with violence and stealing.
