A man who robbed a soccer club at Buff Point and attempted to flee on a bicycle has been arrested after being chased and detained by patrons last night.

About 5:55pm, Monday 5 December 2011, a man wearing a full face mask and armed with a knife attended the soccer club on Millington Way.

The man allegedly walked behind the bar and showed two staff members the knife before he helped himself to cash.

A number of patrons who witnessed the incident threw glasses at him before he left the club and got onto his bicycle.

He was chased down the road by the patrons where he was tackled and detained. Police were subsequently called and attended the scene where they arrested the man.

The 23-year-old Woongarrah man was taken to Wyong Police Station where he was charged with two counts of robbery whilst armed with offensive weapon and refused bail to appear in Wyong Local Court today.

Police will allege the man was also responsible for an armed robbery at the same club about 2:35pm on Wednesday 12 October 2011 where he was able to escape with on his bicycle with a sum of cash.
