Police are hunting the man responsible for a series of mobile phone thefts that have occurred in Melbourne’s CBD over the past two months.

The unknown offender is alleged to have committed thefts around Swanston and Elizabeth streets and on Collins and Little Collins streets from 10 December, 2011 until 15 January, 2012.

On all seven occasions, the offender snatches a mobile phone from the hands of mainly female victims or from the tables they place them on.

Police have released an image of a man they believe can assist their investigation.

The man is perceived to be Caucasian and is believed to be aged in his 20s with short dark hair, medium build, and about 175 to 185cm tall.

The offender was seen wearing black coloured sunglasses during the seven thefts.
