Detectives have thanked the public for their assistance following the arrest of a man in relation to the attempted armed robbery of a bank in Sydney’s south last month.

About 12.30pm on Tuesday 6 March 2012, a man entered the bank on Frederick Street, Oatley, and allegedly threatened a staff member with a pistol.

When staff refused the man’s demands, he ran from the bank empty-handed.

Detectives from State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad have been investigating the incident under Strike Force Hasdell and last week appealed to the public for assistance.

After receiving information from the community, detectives conducted further inquiries before arresting a 24-year-old man at his residence in The Esplanade, Sylvania, yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 4 April 2012).

A search warrant was executed at the home, with a number of items seized for forensic examination.

The man was taken to Sutherland Police Station and charged with attempted robbery whilst armed with a dangerous weapon.

He was refused bail to face Sutherland Local Court today.
