Police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a tavern at Burpengary last night in which customers and staff were threatened.
Around 11:45pm, a man who had been inside the Rowley Road venue for a period of time ignited a boating flare while a woman he was with armed herself with a sharp implement.
The two offenders threatened staff before trying to steal cash from tills but were unsuccessful.
A number of staff members and customers ran into the car park and were followed by the offenders.
The man threw the flare at a male patron causing him to fall to the ground to avoid it. The customer sustained cuts and abrasions as a result.
The offender then threatened another employee inside the premises with a firearm.
The pair fled the scene in a white Holden Commodore Station Wagon with New South Wales number plates.
The man is described as being Caucasian in appearance, in his mid 20s, approximately 180cm tall with a slim build and short brown hair. He was wearing a green hooded jacket with a camouflage pattern.
The woman is described as being Caucasian in appearance, in her mid 20s, approximately 170cm tall with a slim build and long auburn hair. She was wearing a black hoodie.
Investigations are continuing.
