A man will appear in court later this month charged with a spate of armed robberies on petrol stations and bottle shops in western Sydney.
Strike Force Binba, comprising officers from the Metropolitan Robbery Unit with assistance of Mt Druitt, Penrith and St Marys Police, was established to investigate a number of armed robberies.
Police will allege the armed robberies were committed on petrol stations and bottle shops in Colyton, Glendenning, Minchinbury, North Plumpton and Werrington between March and June this year.
During the armed robberies three men, who had their faces covered with stockings and balaclavas, threatened store employees with machetes, samurai swords and a toy gun before stealing cash, cigarettes and alcohol.
Police will also allege the group were involved in the theft and use of a Mitsubishi Express van, a Holden Commodore SS ute, a table top ute and five trail bikes.
On Thursday 26 July 2012, the Holden Commodore ute was involved in a pursuit with police after failing to stop at an RBT site on Tallagandra Drive, Quakers Hill.
During the incident the ute struck a “stop police” sign and narrowly missed hitting a police officer. The pursuit was terminated in Marayong and the ute was later found in Acacia Terrace, Bidwill.
During investigations police conducted search warrants at a house in Clunes Street, Bidwill where they allegedly located clothing, ammunition, weapons and a stolen trail bike.
About 3:45pm on Friday 10 August 2012, a 18-year-old man was arrested by Mt Druitt Police at a shopping centre in Mt Druitt.
