Police are investigating the armed robbery of a Wynnum gift store this afternoon.

Around 2.15pm a man entered the Edith Street store armed with a knife, and demanded cash from the male store attendant.

The man punched the 63-year-old attendant in the face, before taking money from the cash register.

The man fled the store and ran through the grounds of a nearby unattended school.

He is describes as being of a tanned complexion, around 178cm tall, with a slim build and brown hair.

He was wearing a light blue or grey hooded jumper, dark tracksuit pants with white stripes and white shoes.

The store attendant was transported to hospital with minor facial injuries.

Investigations are continuing.
