Detectives investigating two armed robberies in Sydney’s CBD last month have released CCTV images of a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.
Just before 9am on Tuesday 8 October 2012, two intruders – one armed with a knife, the other with a handgun – entered the premises, while a third man waited outside.
The two intruders demanded a male and female staff member open a safe in the office of the hotel. One punched the female employee in the face.
When the employees were unable to open the safe, all three men fled the area on foot, running east along Essex Street.
About 9.45am the same day, three men entered a shop on George Street, Haymarket. One of the men was carrying a handgun, and the other had a stun gun and a knife.
While the two armed men threatened the female employee, the third was going through the cash register behind the counter.
One of the men also assaulted the employee by kicking and punching her in the head.
A short time later, all three men left the premises. They were last seen in George Street.
Detectives from State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad formed Strike Force Edgeworth to investigate these incidents. They have since made an arrest.
Investigators have today (Wednesday 15 November 2012) released CCTV images of a man with whom they wish to speak in relation to these matters.
The man depicted in the images is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, with a medium build, and aged in his mid twenties. In the images, he is wearing a black baseball cap, yellow “polo” shirt, black pants and white shoes.
