Police in the state’s south have arrested a man over a violent attack on two people at a Queanbeyan club overnight.

About 9pm yesterday (Saturday 25 June), a man and woman were standing in the smoking area of a registered club on Stuart Street, Queanbeyan, when they were approached by another man.

He allegedly punched the 20-year-old Narooma man in the chest before striking the 22-year-old Queanbeyan woman in the face.

The alleged offender then threw a glass at the woman’s face, causing it to shatter.

The man left the club a short time later.

Police from Monaro Local Area Command and NSW Ambulance Paramedics responded to the incident.

The woman was taken to Queanbeyan Hospital for treatment of a suspected fractured nose and a facial laceration. The male victim was uninjured.

About 9.40pm, officers located the alleged offender hiding in bushes in a street adjacent to the club.

The 29-year-old man was arrested and taken to Queanbeyan Police Station.

It’s expected he will be charged with malicious wounding, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.

Inquiries by police are ongoing.
