Police are searching for a man who allegedly assaulted a person during an armed robbery of a business in Gympie earlier today.

Just before 3pm a man entered a business on Edwin Campion Drive and on approaching a store attendant, produced a weapon and demanded medication.

The offender then struck the attendant to the face with the weapon, causing minor injuries. He again demanded medication and on receiving the drugs then left the store.

Police are searching for a man described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged 25-35 years-old, 180cms with a proportionate build.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a dark coloured hooded top, black long pants, white runners and carrying a black bag.
