Police have released images a man they believe may be able to assist with enquiries following an attempted armed robbery in Wangaratta on Sunday 19 February.

An unknown man, armed with a sharp object and carrying a white plastic bag, entered a hotel on the corner of Mason and Greta streets, about 10.15pm.

Once inside, the man approached the counter demanding cash and banged the knife on the counter to get the attention of staff.

He left the premises a short time late when no staff attended the counter.

A dark blue commodore sedan was sighted leaving the scene, driving south along Greta Road.

The man is described as being 180cm tall; he was wearing a red and blue flannelette jacket with a grey hood, yellow gloves and blue Adidas pants with white stripes down the side.
