Seven people have been arrested during a proactive shoplifting operation in Marrickville today.
Between 9am and 5pm, general duties police from Marrickville Local Area Command conducted the covert operation at the shopping centre on Victoria Road, Marrickville.
During the operation, four people were issued field court attendance notices for larceny, one person was charged with being a disqualified driver, and two juveniles were caught stealing and will be dealt with via a juvenile caution.
One person received a Criminal Infringement Notice (CIN) for shoplifting, and three traffic tickets were issued. Also, one person was issued a cannabis caution after a drug detection.
Of significance, two of those charged were a 64-year-old woman and her 33-year-old daughter, from Concord, who were arrested after allegedly stealing hundreds of dollars worth of stock from a department store.
Marrickville Duty Officer, Inspector Edward Billett, says that the operations will continue.
“If people think that shoplifting is an easy crime to get away with, they need to think again.
“Police will continue to target retail theft, and those who want to participate in this sort of crime should realise that they will never know when they’re being watched.”
