Fraud Squad detectives have today made their fifteenth arrest following investigations into alleged large-scale fraud offences.
About 3.20pm today, a 57-year-old man attended Surry Hills Police Station where he was arrested by Strike Force Apia detectives. He is expected to be charged later today.
It will be alleged the man was involved in serious fraud offences valued at a total of $500,000, and relating to the fraudulent financing of luxury motor vehicles and earth moving equipment.
It will be alleged the man is part of a wider organised criminal group involved in large-scale fraud within the finance industry.
Today’s arrest follows investigations conducted under Strike Force Apia, which comprises detectives from the State Crime Command’s Fraud Squad.
The Strike Force was established in September 2007 to investigate incidents of alleged complex, large-scale mortgage fraud.
Detectives have to date proactively prevented the processing of fraudulent loan applications valued in excess of $55 million.
To date, a total of 15 people have been arrested by Strike Force Apia detectives, with more than 100 charges laid relating to a total of $15million in fraudulent loans. Investigations are continuing. nn
