Two men have been charged after an attempted theft from an ATM at a shopping centre in Magill.

At 4am this morning (Tuesday 23 January), police were called to the shopping centre on Magill Road after several alarms were detected.

Two men were seen leaving by police in a Volkswagen hatchback. Upon seeing police the men drove off and immediately collided with a brick wall in the carpark of the shopping centre.

One man was arrested while the other ran from the scene. He was arrested a short time later on Magill Road.

One man was taken to the City Watch House while the other was taken to hospital for treatment of a head wound following the collision.

Police discovered that the supermarket had been broken into along with an adjoining butchers shop. An attempt was made to gain access to an ATM but with no success.

A 34-year-old man and a 35-year-old man both of no fixed address have been charged with serious criminal trespass and illegal use of a motor vehicle. They have been refused police bail and are expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court either late today or tomorrow.

Checks by police revealed the car was stolen and was bearing false plates.

Police are also investigating links between the break-in at Magill and an earlier break-in at the Franklin Street bus depot where an unsuccessful attempt was made to gain entry into two carpark cash machines.
