Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred early this morning at a convenience store on Scarborough Street, Southport.

At around 1:30, a man has entered the store and asked the attendant for cigarettes.

He then produced a firearm from under his jumper and demanded cash. He fled the store on foot with a sum of money.

He was last seen running along Scarborough Street towards the Southport RSL.

The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, in his mid twenties, around 170cms tall with blonde hair.

He was wearing a white hooded jacket that was covering his face.

Police investigations are continuing.
