Police have arrested a 22-year-old man from Underdale following the theft of a forklift from a West Hindmarsh food distribution business and a false story about someone being shot.
Police were called to Flinders Park after a resident reported a forklift doing burnouts on the River Torrens bike track at about 11.15pm last night followed by a loud bang.
The bang was the stolen forklift crashing into a pedestrian footbridge where it became wedged.
Needless to say the offending driver ran off and police established cordons on both sides of the river.
A short time later, a call was made to police with the caller stating someone had been shot.
As a result police went to an Underdale address where they spoke to the alleged caller.
Police will allege he made the call to take them away from their original search for him on the river.
He has been charged with being unlawfully on premises, illegal use and create false belief.
He has been bailed to appear in Court at a later date.
